VO2/ZnO bilayer films with enhanced thermochromic property and durability for smart windows

Abstract VO2 films are widely considered as one of the most suitable material to act smart windows. Although this system is able function, durability film has been an issue surface may oxidize by converting V4+ V5+. To overcome problem, attempt made coat with ZnO, which can assist creating a resistance layer prevent further oxidation VO2. Here, VO2/ZnO bilayer was prepared facile method comprised spin-coating and dip-coating process shows excellent durability, in particular. solar modulation efficiency (?Tsol) maintaining ca 89.9% (from 17.8% 16.0%) after 300 days humid environment, however, ?Tsol pure decreased from 11.8% 4.1%. Also, exhibits enhanced thermochromic property visible transmittance (Tlum = 55.7 ± 2.1%) (17.1 ± 1.4%) 1.49 times higher than that (?Tsol = 11.5 ± 0.4%). The enhancement performance probably attributed anti-reflection protection ZnO layer. Therefore, work provide effective way optimize for practical application VO2-based
